Why test for electrical safety?

Why test for electrical safety?

Why test for electrical safety?

It is recommended by most insurance companies and professional standards committees that electrical testing of all electrical systems are carried out at the following intervals for the following situations:

Industrial & manufacturing units and heavy commercial plants

- 3 years

Commercial properties, shops, public houses, offices and general non industrial places of work

- 5 years

Landlords properties & HMOs

 - 5 years

Domestic premises (homes)

- 10 years

PAT Testing

Why test for electrical safety?

Why test for electrical safety?

All electrical goods that are classed as portable appliances i.e. having a plug attached, are usually supplied with a one year manufactures guarantee.

If anything happened to that item within the year, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer or supplier. After guarantees run out it is the owners responsibility to ensure the item is safe to use. By carrying out a PAT test (portable appliance test) this ensures compliance with current regulations and along with basic observational skills and regular visual inspection of appliances by the users and owners, it is the best way to ensure items of electrical equipment that are used on a day-to-day basis are safe continued use. Please be aware that just because an item has been tested, it does not exonerate users from a duty of care. Failure to properly maintain, willfully use an item that is obviously not fit for purpose or adapt an item will not stop the risk of electric shock!!

PAT for Insurance

Artisan electrical can provide portable appliance testing, complete a register of all appliances either by name or appliance ID, and issue a report on findings and any remedial actions recommended or required. As all items are listed, this provides the client with a complete asset register under their control within the building. An excellent way of, in the event of an incident, being able to supply an insurance company with all relevant documentation.
